Twined Rag Rug, Super-sized!

Laura’s been hard at work on her rag rug for our living room this weekend. She’s made really great progress; pretty soon we’ll be able to give it a try beneath our toes. I’ve captured a few photos of the hand moves she uses to make one of these awesome rugs.

One strand under; one strand over; twist. Repeat.

Twining involves twisting the strands of fabric at every one of the warp strips that are made of old blue jeans.  For the weft strips, she sourced Goodwill for any old fabric that had the right colors.

In coming posts we’ll give more detail about the individual steps involved in making the loom and the rug.  Stay tuned!
